Copywriter and PR/communications consultant - Freelance (May 2015 - present)

I work with companies to devise and implement content and media strategies that align PR and Marketing activities with new business objectives, with a key strength in writing engaging copy.

  • Copywriting and ghost-writing thought-leadership content for press placement as well as for company websites.
  • Creating content and PR strategy documents covering thought-leadership, and implementing them.
  • Advising creative businesses on marketing strategies and how to align them with new business objectives.
  • Advising clients about social media use and strategy.
  • Offer clients consultancy about their websites and branding to help them get better at communicating internally and externally.

Creative strategist - Ilse Crawford design studio (Jan 2014 – May 2015)

I worked on the creative strategy and narrative that underpinned brand-consultancy and design projects.

  • Shaped the narrative and strategical thinking behind all design, branding and consultancy projects and pitches.
  • Designed and wrote pitches to help win new business.
  • Conducted research, develop insights and collate information to supplement design briefs, research benchmarks, and chair internal discussions to inform design strategy.
  • Responsible for channeling new business inquiries and building new business relationships.
  • Managed a team of 10 designers: project resourcing and day-to-day HR queries, overseeing productivity of the whole studio.

Digital content producer - MONOCLE  (Sept 2009 - Jan 2014)

Generated editorial ideas for the content of podcast programmes, the website and magazine. Writing copy, articles and producing podcasts.

  •  Client-facing role working with brands to create and produce online collaborations, digital advertising sponsored audio podcasts and digital content.
  • Responsible for generating editorial ideas for the content of radio podcast programmes and seeing these ideas through to fruition – research, script-writing, booking guests, reporting, editing.
  • Organising/co-ordinating photo and video shoots.
  • Produced a weekly music podcast for 2 years, recording all over the world, producing, researching, interviewing, script-writing, editing and reporting. The audience grew 300% during the time I was involved to 200,000 weekly downloads worldwide.
  • Oversaw the launch of a 24-hour digital radio station for Monocle, M24.
  • Produced podcasts in studios all over the world from Sydney to Stockholm, Beirut to Tokyo, working with different international teams to deliver a quality product.

PA to Tyler Brûlé - MONOCLE / Winkreative (Sept 2008 – Jan 2011)

I worked very closely with Tyler Brûlé to facilitate his roles as editor in chief/chairman of Monocle magazine and creative director of Winkreative design agency, gaining valuable insights into branding and content strategy

  • Managed a complex schedule and coordinated an extensive international travel diary for Tyler Brûlé, seamlessly accommodating his role as the figurehead of two very different creative businesses.
  • Conducted research on a daily basis to assist Tyler with overseeing editorial projects for Monocle, design projects for Winkreative, his weekly column for the FT and his many international speaking engagements about branding, design and entrepreneurialism.
  • Acted as an ambassador for Monocle and Winkreative at many events and meetings around the world, and set and important example internally.
  • Prioritised and channeled a huge volume of communications from a variety of different people – internal directors and staff, company CEOs, clients, collaborators.
  • Trusted to have close communication with important senior clients and contacts, from the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro and the vice-president of Iraq, to media figures like Arianna Huffington and the CEOs of several international airlines.
  • Briefed creatives on Tyler’s behalf, interpreted/shared his feedback, ensured that clients were kept informed, managed day-to-day running of a diverse range of projects 

Junior Account Manager - FITCH Design Consultants (Sept 2007 – Sept 2008)

Worked on the day-to-day project management of a variety of interior and brand design projects for Vodafone and M&S at this global design agency.

  • Conducted research to help inform the creative strategy for projects and to circulate within the design team.
  • Assisted in the day-to-day management of a large variety of projects: packaging design, retail interiors, marketing photo-shoots, graphic design and branding.
  • Acted as a channel of communication between the design teams, senior clients and suppliers. My natural creative instinct meant I communicated well with the designers, which enabled me to translate their ideas to help clients understand them.
  • Costed projects, wrote client proposals, wrote designer briefs, managed budgets, timelines and team resourcing for multiple projects across the M&S and Vodafone accounts.
  • Balanced the contrasting demands of working with two very different client teams, two very different internal creative teams and many different types of creative project.

Achievements & other interests

  • 1 of 3 graduates in the UK short-listed for Fashion Journalist of the Year at Graduate Fashion Week 2007.
  • Appointed editor of the graduation magazine from my degree course.
  • Attained the highest marks in my year group for GCSEs, A-levels and my degree course.
  • Competed as a successful solo pianist and as part of many musical ensembles on a national level, and performed for HM The Queen in her Golden Jubilee year.
  • I am also a composer of classical music and do this work alongside my freelance copywriting work.
